American (English) French-language remake of the series HPI (2021)
Narrative
Follows Morgan, a single mother of three, and how, thanks to her brilliant mind, she is able to help solve a crime by rearranging evidence during her shift as a police department cleaner. Despite her very high IQ, excellent memory, and extensive knowledge of mysteries, Morgan makes a series of major legal mistakes that anyone who has ever watched a TV legal show would not know she made. For example, in the first episode, she retrieves a document from a locked safe in the suspect-victim’s law office that would never be admissible in court — illegally obtained evidence. It also could not be used to obtain other evidence — a violation of the legal doctrine of the “fruit of the poisonous tree.” In episode 2, she has to be reminded to wear gloves before handling evidence at a crime scene, while in episode 3, she removes all documented evidence from the police station, completely breaking the chain of custody and no longer allowing anything she removed to be admissible in court.
They hire her as a consultant
HPI Remake (2021). This series follows Morgan (Kaitlin Olson), a woman who is the night janitor for the LAPD. When she happens to look at the case files, she is fascinated by them and makes some corrections due to the murders. This leads the department to realize that she has a talent for perceiving, assimilating, and organizing facts, or evidence.
She’s also very persuasive
Consider that Will Hunting meets Adrianne Monk. Like Will, she has a high IQ and a reasonable mind. Like Monk, she suffers from OCD, although not as neurotically as Monk. But she feels she has to reconcile all the conflicting data (like an itch that needs to be scratched).
And the cases have interesting solutions
And while Morgan sometimes feels out of place, she’s very empathetic. I really like this series, although there have been many other police procedurals where a civilian with unusual talents works alongside the cops. Morgan’s character is fun to watch. She also has three kids, so she always has to balance work and home life.
The kids are interesting too
In the first episode, her young son actually helps her with the case behind the scenes.
