"MaXXXine" is a direct sequel to “X”; (unlike “Pearl”, which is kind of lonely)
In it, Maxine Minx gets a role in a legitimate movie called “The Puritan 2”; (a sequel to “The Puritan”) and is eager to finally become a real star. However, her past since the events of "X" begins to catch up with her when a detective (working for a mysterious man) also finds her in the background of “Night Climber”; murdered in Los Angeles, people around Maxine start dying…"MaXXXine" is by far the weakest of the three “X’s”; movies. That’s not to say it’s bad, but it lacks the true horror and novelty of "X" and “he cannot look away”; suspense or "Pearl." The person behind it all is pretty obvious, and there really are a lot of threats that are just too quick and easy to deal with, so a lot of the suspense is limited. Goth is great as always, but there really isn’t anyone else in the cast that really stands out.

And there is a real lack of actual “horror”; in this movie. "Pearl" it was more creepy, maybe, as opposed to “pure horror”. But I’m not sure that "MaXXXine" it even qualifies as a “horror movie”; not at all And the ending… meh.

I have no hesitation in recommending "MaXXXine" — the story is interesting, Ti West is a wonderful director, Maxine Minx is a great character, and Mia Goth is great in the role. But as is the case with many trilogies, the first is clearly the best, and each one drops in quality.. A24 has produced some of the most memorable horror films of the 21st century.
